'No Fault' Insurance Coverage

Utah follows a "no fault" system of insurance, which means you can recover financial compensation for your bills regardless of who is at fault. Under your own insurance policy, you can recover "no fault" benefits, also known as personal injury protection (PIP), which will minimally pay for your first $3,000 of reasonable and necessary medical expenses under your valid Utah automobile insurance policy. In addition to insurance coverage to pay for your medical expenses, you may also be entitled to compensation for wage loss and certain household assistance, with supporting medical documentation.

Pedestrians and cyclists without their own auto insurance can receive PIP benefits from the policy of the at-fault vehicle.

Health Insurance

Once the PIP medical benefits have been exhausted, your own health insurance should take responsibility for continued payment of medical expenses. Our attorneys are skilled in these matters and can ensure there is a smooth transition so you are not left to fall through the cracks. We work with a number of local physicians, physical therapists, chiropractors and other medical professionals and facilities that provide care on a "lien" basis, for those without health insurance, which means they typically wait until their personal injury claim is resolved to receive payment.

If you receive bills from places that will not work on a "lien" basis, we can work to arrange a payment plan to protect your credit as we continue to work toward an optimum settlement or jury award.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Insurance

Being struck by a driver without insurance or without adequate insurance does not mean you will be left on your own. Many policies include protections for such situations. Our lawyers have the experience and resources necessary to go the distance for our clients, uncovering all possible sources of compensation, including umbrella or excess policies that they may not even know exist.
